Star Wars: Art Of The Sabre

April 30, 2005 (8 Responses)

Art of the SaberI came across this while blogging through the randomness, and I was just stunned at the content. Basically two brothers came together to make a short film, obviously inspired by the Star Wars Universe and to be honest, what they have achieved is nothing short of amazing. The moves, camerawork, music, sound effects… it’s all there. Video quality isn’t perfect, but it’s more than good enough to get the key concepts. If you have a DSL broadband connection – just download this movie and see for yourself. It’s approx 9mb of data – but it will really impress you. Trust me on this .. I mean, have I steered you wrong yet? Exactly! ;)

Essential Technology – DVD Shrink

April 30, 2005 (No Responses)

DVD ShrinkThis little piece of freeware is highly recommended. Trust me on this, if you have a DVD burner on your PC, you cannot live without DVD Shrink V3.2. This tool not only allows you to take copies of your favourite Movie or Data DVDs and burn them, it also allows you to edit out the bits you don’t want and shrink it down to suit. So – don’t want all those spanish and chinese translation tracks or special bonus features? – No problem, just deselect them. It’s as simple as that.
The best piece of functionality however is that DVD Shrink allows you to change the region encoding of the disk, so you can turn a coded region into a multiregion copy, or vice versa. This is truely a fantastic piece of software and best of all – it’s free. Go get it, you know you want to :)

Bush - The worlds policeman

Well – we have this world domination category here at Howl @ The Moon!” which I guess Gozer will get the most usage out of (being as he is so hell bent on global dominaton), but I thought I should kick the category off with a quick view of the world’s policeman, El Presidente Dubya :)

Hacker Deletes Own Hard Drive!

April 28, 2005 (6 Responses)

HackerThis is beautiful, in fact it’s beyond beautiful – it’s karma in action, the instant variety :)
I came across this story over at the The Inquirer and I felt compelled to share it here. Basically – a hacker (or more likely a script kiddie) who considered himself the dogs bollox of hackers, attempted to hack an online chat room moderator in retalliation for being thrown out of a chat room. He bullied the moderator into providing him with his IP address, and then set about hacking into it, and deleting the hard drive. The best news? It was his own IP address, and his own hard drive, and he was in mid rant at the moderator about how cool he was when suddenly the connection died. ROFL :D

You gotta love these crafty hackers. This guy was so cool he basically managed to hack into his own system and then proceeded to delete his own hard drive, while he was online bragging about it, right up to the point where his connection died because his HDD was getting fried. Damn – that’s the best example of instant karma I’ve ever seen.

Yeehah!

HomerWell – I just finished sitting my first Prince2 Project Management exam, and I’m absolutely delighted with the result. As previously mentioned I had been struggling with the pre-course work and was prone to the odd rant and rave or two :) … but I stuck at it and today I did the exam, and managed to somehow scrape an 85% result, which for me is freaking crazy.
I’m in a good mood tonight; no more studying for a week or so anyway (until the prep for the next exam starts). It’s time for some online gaming and a few beers I reckon. YEEEEEEHAH!! :D

Surprised?… I nearly fucking fainted :)

Prince2Well now, this was a turn up for damn sure! To say I was surprised would be an understatement. I had been attempting to study in preparation for this Prince 2 Project Management course over the weekend, but failing dismally as previously posted, and yet tonight after day one of the actual course I’m confronted by an unexpected truth :)
Each night we (students) are given some homework to do (christ was that like a bad trip down memory lane to school days!) and in addition, we get to do a mock exam, in preparation for the real thing later this week as a way to evaluate how much info we have retained on the subject matter. The course instructor handed out statistics like “getting 30 out of 70 would be normal at this stage of the course” and “Don’t worry if you fail, it’s only the first night of revision” and even “Scoring over 40 would be quite an achievment”…

Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time

April 24, 2005 (2 Responses)

Curious DogI approached this book without any preconceptions, and used a very democratic way of deciding to read it in the first place. Having made the decision I settled down and found myself immersed in the world of Christopher, an autistic 15 year old boy who is both gifted and cursed; gifted with an amazing memory, an aptitude for mathmatics and scientific subjects, cursed with no way of being able to deal with emotions, no real way to understand the human condition or to relate to those around him. He has a structured life, and an ordered way of dealing with life – until the day he discovers a neighbours dog, dead in the garden – murdered. This incident sparks a wonderful voyage of discovery for Christopher, and the reader, as he moves outside of his ‘comfort zone’ and has to take on the full force of people, policemen, buses, trains, and just about everything else that we take for granted.
