Trick Or Treat?

October 31, 2005 (One Response)

Trick or TreatAs I sit here and write this post, my house is under siege. Once again, it’s that time of the year when the little monsters, accompanied by their parents, descend upon the neighbourhood and sally forth with their battle cry “Trick Or Treat?”.

Just once I think I’d like to surprise ‘em a little; give the little darlings something else to think about for a change. Right now I’m conjuring up some crazy ideas for the next poor souls who knock at my door, but the one foremost in my mind concerns the use of crafty canines… Trick or treat you say? I’ll take trick please… and do remember I’ve set the attack dogs loose in the grounds and they haven’t been fed for three days, so any sudden movements are on your own head! ;)

Still - it did prompt me to look at the origins of the trick or treat phrase and that made for some interesting reading. Did you know for example that it includes Celts, Druids, Virgins, Human Sacrifices and more? Though not. So for your reading pleasure and education I present to you the origins of the “Trick or Treat” phrase ;)

The Celts tried to appease the evil spirits: ghosts, goblins, and demons. Huge “Samhain” bonfires were built to light the way for all the spirits to find their way in to the world of the living. They would leave out food, hoping that this would please the spirit world. If they did not leave a thing, then hence, the spirits would play evil “tricks” on the living in that house. The Druids required human sacrifices, they would go door to door asking for the virgin daughters. If this was not obtained at the chosen homes, then a hexagram was painted on the door in blood to show the appointed evil spirits to cause all kinds of evil to fall on the home. In some cases, even resulted in death.

Bluetooth Vibrator to change Mondays Forever!

October 30, 2005 (4 Responses)

VibratorsOK - so every now and then a new piece of technology comes along which is worthy of mention. In this particular case - it would be a crime not to mention this latest toy;)

As if women didn’t have enough toys to play with, it seems now the Cool & Groovy Toy Company Ltd have come up with the ultimate in vibrators for women; the SMS capable bluetooth toy which is worn internally!!

Picture the scene. It’s monday morning, you’re bored, slightly drunk from the weekend and dreading the week ahead when you hit your desk. One quick SMS message from your other half could result in a few minutes of pleasure, leading to a complete mindshift about the day/week ahead ;)

That’s the spin being put on this anyway. For more info - honestly, this is a real product - go check out Thetoy.co.uk and see it for yourself. Oh and whatever you do, make sure to check out the specifications page for all the little ‘extras’ you get with this widget. Some things just need to be seen to be believed!

It’s Official - Winter Is Here!

October 29, 2005 (No Responses)

WinterHad a few beers last night, stumbled into the scratcher for a few hours kip and this morning, dragged my ass into the local people place for some trad breakfast (full irish etc.) and coke; the perfect hangover cure. Once I got over the intial ‘oh christ I’m awake’ stage I took a walk around the marina I realised just how crisp the air was, and how cold it had become. The wind was slicing through the boats and the cables, producing what can only be described as a loud moan, akin to large slow animals being tortured in some way, and while I stood there listening it hit me - Season Change. Winter is here folks, and not a moment too soon! Time for the dark nights, the heavy clothes, the really long weekends in bed and hopefully some snow at some point… so that the entire city will plunge into the usual chaos and mayhem ;)

Bring it on!!

Suicide Mistaken for Halloween Decoration!

October 28, 2005 (2 Responses)

Halloween MoonWell, I suppose it is the Halloween season so there are bound to be a few crazy stories, but this one is particularly insane. The Associated Press are running a story about a woman who committed suicide, by hanging herself from a tree located on a moderately busy residential street. As if this wasn’t bad enough… it seems she was swinging there, about 15 feet off the ground, for quite a few hours while passers by simply looked on and admired the “realistic Halloween decoration”.

Can you imagine it? Walking by with your kids to school, driving past on your way to work and simply passing by a human being hanging from a tree, and assuming it’s a decoration. Grotesque isn’t it? But - in this mad world we live in, it doesn’t surprise me somehow. You can read the full story (Apparent Suicide of Delaware Woman Found Hanging From a Tree Mistaken for a Halloween Decoration) over here at ABCNews if you can stomach it.

The Truth Is Out There

October 27, 2005 (One Response)

The Truth Is Out There!Sometimes, the randomness of this wonderful universe we inhabit has a way of intruding upon the most perfectly organised, scheduled and co-ordinated events, and simply demanding you acknowledge a simple truth. It could be any truth, nothing specific… but the point is one way or another, the universe always finds a way!

Far be it from me to state the obvious about this photo, but I think you will all agree that from a perfectly scripted event, a simple truth has emerged uninvited, unnoticed and with perfect simplicity ;)

Jesus Saves!

Jesus Saves!

I’ve always been fed up with the religious whackos constantly beating me up and telling me about the end of the world, the time in hell I’m likely to spend and the fact that if I repent, Jesus will Save me… of course this is usually just summarised into the words “Jesus Saves”. Don’t you think they could save themselves a lot of time and effort by simply using this image instead? ;)

Full credit to StevieB for sending this one on to me in the hopes that it was my type of humour. Spot On! Do yourselves a favour and right click / download this Animated GIF file file for the full effect. Trust me, Jesus really does save
