And Now For Something Completely Different

I’VE BEEN FEELING RATHER UNINSPIRED LATELY, so here’s something with which you can amuse yourself for about three seconds:
Have a ball.
Irish Homosexuals = Nazis = Ku Klux Klan,…

…OR SO IS THE OPINION OF JOHN DUNLEAVY, Chairman of the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Quoth Mr. Dunleavy:
“If an Israeli group wants to march in New York, do you allow Neo-Nazis into their parade? If African Americans are marching in Harlem, do they have to let the Ku Klux Klan into their parade?”
Referring to the Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization, Dunleavy said, “People have rights. If we let the ILGO in, is it the Irish Prostitute Association next?”
Wow. I never knew that Irish gays and lesbians were race-baiting fascists. Like the Nazis and the KKK, do they also have their own snazzy uniforms? If so, I bet they look FABULOUS!
On a serious note, in their earliest days of immigration to America the Irish were oppressed and treated as second-class citizens. They constituted America’s first of many large waves of immigration. After the Irish had established themselves in the U.S., subsequent waves of Italians, Poles, Jews, etc. came to America, also to find to themselves being treated with hostility at first. Eventually they also gained acceptance by the general population. Gays and lesbians never immigrated as a group to the U.S., because they’ve always been here, and they’ve been present in every immigrant group in every country on the planet. They’ve always been everywhere. They have struggled for acceptance every place they’ve been, and only in the past 40 years or so in America have they received some of the respect that all human beings deserve.
The St. Patrick’s Day parades in Dublin and Cork allow gays and lesbians to participate with all the other marchers, but not in New York City. Maybe Mr. Dunleavy thinks his New York parade is more Irish than the parades held in actual Irish cities, but I really don’t know what that jackass is thinking. As I mentioned in my last post I have some Irish ancestry, therefore my younger brother does too. He also happens to be gay and lives in New York City. Yet that son of a bitch Dunleavy not only wants to discriminate against him in the same manner as our early Irish immigrants were, but he also wants to equate him with murdering, racist scum. So I have but a few words to say to Obergruppenführer Dunleavy: I’d tell you to get the fuck out of my country, but I’m pretty damn sure almost no one would take you, with the possible exception of the Taliban. Instead I’ll just tell you to go to hell, you fucking piece of shit.
Kiss Me, I’m 5/8 Irish!

…AND 1/4 FRENCH AND 1/8 GERMAN. My paternal grandfather and paternal grandmother both immigrated to the U.S. from Ireland, from Counties Cork and Kerry, respectively. My maternal grandmother was French, and my maternal grandfather was half Irish and half German. Do the math, and it adds up to 100% American.
Thirty-four million Americans–or roughly 15% of all Americans–report Irish ancestry, more than any other ancestry but German. We in America who claim Irish ancestry are quite proud of it, and rightly so. A few years ago I read How the Irish Saved Civilization, by Thomas Cahill. It was a very interesting book, but rather than me describing it I’ll share this shamelessly copied review from Amazon.com instead:
In this delightful and illuminating look into a crucial but little-known “hinge” of history, Thomas Cahill takes us to the “island of saints and scholars,” the Ireland of St. Patrick and the Book of Kells. Here, far from the barbarian despoliation of the continent, monks and scribes laboriously, lovingly, even playfully preserved the West’s written treasury. When stability returned in Europe, these Irish scholars were instrumental in spreading learning, becoming not only the conservators of civilization, but also the shapers of the medieval mind, putting their unique stamp on Western culture.
I’ll now share with you various images of how we Americans pay respect to the pivotal role the Irish played in preserving Western civilization. You will see how we’ve solemnized the feast of Saint Patrick and also proudly displayed our Irish heritage:
One Less Asshole In The World

SO THE SON OF A BITCH FINALLY IS DEAD. Slobodan Milosevic’s (left) death from natural causes yesterday probably will offer no solace to any of his victims (right). That almost the last five years of his life have been in prison might slightly assuage his surviving victims’ sense of having justice denied, or at least I hope so. I know I wouldn’t want to spend five seconds in prison, let alone five years. However one feels about the legitimacy of the 1999 NATO bombing campaign against Serbia, there is no doubt that this man was responsible for a great deal of suffering and death, up to and including genocide. He will be missed by few.
As you might have guessed, I’m now going to bring up King George and Prince Tony. Are they clones of Milosevic? No. To me the Iraq War and its causes aren’t sufficiently analogous to the 1999 Serbian War and its causes to draw any neat and tidy conclusions about related character traits in any of these men. However, that is not to say that Bush and Blair aren’t war criminals. They’re just a different kind of war criminal when compared to Milosevic. Some of the charges against them are the same and some are different, but I suspect they’ll all be spending eternity south of heaven. Maybe when their time comes Bush and Blair will be able to convince God that their cause was noble. Unlike Milosevic’s case, I doubt God will appoint a special defense team for them. They better have their talking points down pat on that day.
Meme Of Four
March 10, 2006 (One Response)
I WAS TAGGED with this meme-of-four/blogger pyramid scheme, so I must respond or spend eternity doing Tom DeLay’s dirty laundry. That’s 900,000 eternities of work, I’m sure.
Four jobs I’ve had (in no particular order):
-Telemarketer (because of that alone I should spend eternity doing Tom DeLay’s dirty laundry).
-Mailman
-Electronics Technician/Reactor Operator (as a sailor in the US Navy)
-Scheduling analyst (you don’t even want to know what the hell that is)
Four movies I can watch over and over:
-Apocalypse Now
-Groundhog’s Day
-Stripes
-Scarface
SicilianNotes: My Response To Richard Waghorne’s Accusations
March 9, 2006 (2 Responses)
RICHARD WAGHORNE OF SICILIAN NOTES criticized my post about the human cost of the Iraq war, Death Never Takes A Holiday. I responded in his comments section, and I’m cross-posting my second comment here in case he decides not to post it. Please read the comments section under his article to understand everything to which is being referred. The following opinion is mine and mine alone.
Richard- can the aggro comment, it’s embarrassing.
It shows that you, like so many of your brothers-in-arms from the 101st Keyboard and Pilonidal Cyst Regiment will stop at nothing to smear people who have the temerity to disagree with you or your noble cause. Your “aggro” remark, as well as the “ignoring your ravings” dig are obviously meant to imply that I am an unbalanced, violent peacenik. Let the swiftboating begin! Mentioning that I would meet you at the airport and typing my name in all caps was my way of responding to your “courageously speaking truth to power from behind his (or her) computer screen” bravado. I stand behind everything I say, and am unafraid to do so. Read more
Bowling For Zion-bine: Dumbest Interview EVER

PAMELA GELLER OSHRY, proprietor of Atlas Shrugs, hyper-Zionist, and general nit-wit, recently did a hard-hitting, in-depth interview at an AIPAC conference with John Bolton, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. and lying, war-mongering piece of shit. What kind of in-depth questions and controversial subjects were discussed? Well, among other things, bowling:
