Computer Geek Maxim

Continuing on the tradition of bringing the concept of Universal Principles to our discerning readers we now turn our attention to the faithful computer system. Yep – that heap of metal and wires which we have all become addicted to in the last two decades. If there is one simple universal principle about these things that you need to know, it’s this…

When you get the point where you really understand your computer or software, it’s probably obsolete!

I have a theory about computers specifically and society in general. For most of mankind’s time on Earth things changed pretty slowly and we could keep up relatively well. With computers, everything has sped up so radically that mere mortals can no longer keep up with the machines they’ve created.

In the not too distant future, historians will look back at this period and think that the change wrought by the Industrial Revolution was child’s play compared to this.

Maybe the Ludites had a point.
