650,000 Confirmed Civilian Casualties In Iraq, And Counting…
October 11, 2006 (One Response)
ON THE SAME DAY that Bush states he has no intention of leaving Iraq until the “job is done”, I read about the latest confirmed civilian casualty count in Iraq and my blood starts to boil ever so slightly. OK – not so slightly, more like angry beyond belief actually.
I’ve been reading an excellent and fascinating article entitled “End The Politics Of Humiliation” over at Guardian Unlimited and the math just hits home, hard. The article talks about how an investigative team went into Iraq to verify the state of affairs in relation to civilian deaths and casualties; it discusses how the findings have been verified and how the numbers were arrived at, but the importantance of this article can really be summed up by two simple – but shocking – sentances as follows:-
“All of these checks and balances mean that the 650,000 additional Iraqi casualties they report since the invasion are the most reliable estimates we have of civilian deaths. Most of these deaths have taken place among young men aged between 15 and 44.”
Some additional research across my usual news sites on this subject yields another equally scary statistic. In September (2006) alone, over 2,660 Iraqi civilians were killed. In just one fucking month!
Exactly when will this become unacceptable?
I strongly urge you to go read the source material (clicky clicky on the links above) because as tough as the facts are… they are still the facts and worthy of your consideration. Having said that, I still wonder just what the hell kind of future Iraq has (if any).
When Bush says he ain’t leaving until the “job is done”, what exactly is the “job” in question – the extinction of all Iraqi civilians?

Well, that would be one way of getting control of the oil. The Romans used to interbreed to quell dissension, but it doesn’t sound like there are too many GIs getting it on with the local ladies over there.
