C Is For… Cosmo!

PLEASE WELCOME our latest addition to the insanity that vaguely resembles a life here at Howl @ The Moon! His name is… Cosmo.
Thanks for all the suggestions by the way, we did take them into consideration. By the time we got to the breeder yesterday the black and tan chap was already gone, so it was down to a choice between two little black bundles of fun, and this little guy won out because of his personality more than anything else. I was all for calling him “Chewbaca” or “Chewie” if he had been the black and tan puppy, but that wasn’t to be.
The bottom line on this pup is that basically he’s mad!
Fearless too. Very inquisitive, very friendly and has no issues being handled so all in all a good package for a pup. He’s also got the most amazing blue eyes. Last night was weird because we brought him back to the house and introduced him to Amber, our 10 year old cocker spaniel, who promptly ignored him. And continued to ignore him for the rest of the night; she is still mourning the loss of her sister, Bonnie.
We’re hoping the two of them will bond fast, but it’s probably going to take some time. If anyone has some suggestions or recommendations based on experience then please do let me know. We can do with all the advice we can get at this stage to make sure the two of them bond as quickly as possible.
For now though I’ve thrown up a few photos of Cosmo’s first night if anyone is interested over at the Gallery, so go on, treat yourself to a few harmless puppy photos! I slapped them up so that our friends and family could browse in and see how he’s doing. He’s been checked over by the Vet this morning and given the all clear, so the adventure begins anew from here…

OMG he is absolutely beautiful! He reminds me of my sweet Lady. I can tell you, from experience, that Amber may not bond with him the way she bonded with her sister. My Lady never bonded with any of our pets. We got her as an adult and she was an only dog for a few years before we decided to get another pet. We actually went through several other pets and she never bonded with any of them but I think it was due to her age. She tolderated them but never really bonded with them. Sorry I couldn’t give you better advice.
Chris
Actually Chris, I think we’re going to be ok. Cosmo was a bit cautious for the first day or so, and then he just took to the place like a duck to water. Amber was ignoring him for the first week, and then only yesterday I came home from work to find the two of them rolling around the place in playful poses and barking/yapping at each other.
I was worried there for a bit, but it looks like they are going to get on with each other, thankfully!!!

My only experience with cocker spanials was with by best friends dog renamed Malice, used to be Alice. This completely psycho beast would bite anyone, keeping your feet raised while sitting in chairs was crucial or he’d creep up from beneath and savage your ankles.
Finally came to a head when my BF had a fling with a Hells Angel (yes she had no taste in men, I blame a catholic upbringing) and he was too scared to come into the yard. Dog finally had to go.
So good luck with your cute crazy beast, might stop you getting your meter read or summons delivered anyway.
@yoyo: I know that cockers have that reputation all right, and I’ve seen at least one crazed dog in the past, but so far the ones we have had have been absolutely brilliant family pets; no aggression, no nasty habits… just pure pets.
Let’s hope the luck holds out!
I am so happy to hear that they are bonding! I heard rumors about Cockers too but it nevered altered my decision in wanting one. In fact, if anything it helped, hoping it would keep the unwanteds away. Lady was good at letting people know when they were in “Her Space”.
