Can Someone Suggest An Unusual Vacation Please?

August 6, 2008 (9 Responses)

Need HelpI NEED YOUR HELP folks. I want to go on vacation in September, for approximately 2 weeks but I’m bored with all the usual options. I need something different this time around.

Basically I’ve done all the standard type of holidays (beaches, city breaks etc.) and I’m bored with all of it. I am looking to so something completely different this time around, something unique if possible that I haven’t tried before. I’m based in Ireland so factor that in (in respect of flying time) when considering the options.

What I’m after is some suggestions from you, either based on personal experience or simply by referral from other sources. I was considering maybe doing a safari in Africa but it’s a 12 hour flight and to do it right would cost a fortune (did I mention I like luxury? Roughing it for me is probably 4 star!!).

So - do you have any suggestions or hints folks? Can you recommend any paritcular events, locations, destinations or combinations that are worthy of relieving my boredom? If you can - please comment and let me know. Thanks.

One idea, is to go islamd hoping in greece. One day on one island, the next on another. In september, most of the foreign tourists are gone, and it is nice and quiet. The Aegean is warm, and swimable untill october november…just an idea.

Thanks Andy, I hadn’t even considered island hopping as an option thus far. I’ll take a closer look at it.

Anyone else got some bright ideas worth considering too?

Too bad you’re going in September. If it was later in the year I’d suggest Montreal for the Winterfest. You could stay in a hotel built entirely of ice.

I’d also suggest a train vacation. Find yourself a long distance train. They have reasonable accomdations. You can get off and on if you decide to stay in a place for awhile, and if you pick some countries near you, it would make for a short flight. Sort of like a cruise except on land.

OP - thanks for that. I could go in September or October I suppose, but not later than that because I need to be here for November/December.

Trains…..hmm…cramped quarters for a tall sod like me. Not sure about that one although I know SusiQ would love to do the orient express at some point. More to think about. Thanks.

I think you can go to china and visit beijin.
Because Beijing 2008 Olympic Games had open before 2 days.

Ok - decision made. Looks like a bit of a trek around the USA is the order of the day. Hoping to take in New York, Chicago, Las Vegas and San Francisco… and maybe do a bit of sky diving, bungie jumping, land sailing and whatever other crazy shit I can think of while I’m there.

    Thanks for the suggestions folks.

Try Pismo Beach, California, after world-class scenic drive from Big Sur, (stop and hand feed chipmunks at rest stop).Sea Crest Hotel has three heated hot tubs with lone beautiful women reading war and peace in one of them. There is a heated pool as well and about 111 steps directly down to a beautiful empty beach. Was there two years ago and a double was about 89 dollars a nite with ref, coffee machine and microwave in room with large enough balcony facing the beach. You can grab amazing seafood at a place about a three minute walk by beach route- just look for the locals queing at the door, and you can eat on the pier watching the sun set into the western sky.

Got something to say?
