Get Off Yer Arse And Vote!
June 11, 2008 (No Responses)
I DON’T CARE if you are for or against the Lisbon treaty at this point. Personally I’m still undecided and will continue to try to inform myself right up to the point of casting my vote tomorrow, but that’s the important thing really… I will vote on this treaty and so should you.
The bottom line is that you are obliged to get off yer arse and go vote on the topic. If you are confused, if you don’t really know what you’re voting about then I would respectfully suggest you really get off that arse of yours and go talk to people and form an opinion. Fast.
The most important thing you can do tomorrow is vote.
I’m not going to advise you on which way to vote; that’s your own affair. I have my own views and I’m still trying update them and get as informed as possible before I eventually cast my vote tomorrow, but one thing is for sure… right now we are the only ones in Europe who get to vote on this hugely important issue for Ireland and Europe as a whole, so to not even bother to vote would be an insult not just to those who came before you, but to all those 487 million people in Europe who can only sit back and watch the proceedings from afar because they do not have the luxury we are afforded by our constitution in its current form.
Being confused about the issues and the decision before you is not an excuse to bail on doing your civic duty. I know the whole thing has been a clusterfuck from start to finish, with both sides of the argument doing an excellent job of either misinforming or confusing the electorate on most occasions as they take diametrically opposed viewpoints on almost every issue… but still you must make an effort tomorrow.
So please – go vote whatever way you like, but just make sure you do vote… and then I guess we will all just have to wait and see what happens in the aftermath.
