Jesus: Religious Icon Or Randy Dude?

February 26, 2007 (No Responses)

Jesus - Religious Icon or Randy Father?JESUS HAD A SON named Judah and was buried alongside Mary Magdalene, according to a new documentary by Hollywood film director James Cameron.

Yup. You read that right. Cameron is about to unveil a documentary film on the Discovery Channel next month where he claims to have found the, now empty, tomb of one Jesua, son of Joseph. The sepulchre also apparently contained the bodies of Mary. As well as another Mary, Matthew and Jofa, and most spectacularly, Jonah, son of Jesu. Cameron also says he has statistical analysis and DNA evidence to back up his claim. Although what DNA they are comparing against is a bit of a mystery to me!

Hmmm. So Jesus got ‘busy’ with Mary and produced an offspring?

I’m not religious. I’m pretty much agnostic but I know a lot of religious people, and in particular a lot of pretty serious Catholics and Christians who are going to be fairly pissed off by this. Not because some Hollywood icon has decided to make a documentary about this. Not even because it will completely contradict their belief system. Oh no – what will really piss them off is that we are now looking at the potential for something much worse.

You see, personally I couldn’t care less if Jesus ever existed or whether or not he knocked up Mary Magdalene and had a son on the side. It means nothing whatsoever to me and my daily life (however I highly recommend the Official God FAQ for those who wish to explore this notion further) but fair play to those who do believe this; good luck to you. I’m all for whatever helps folks get through the day.

There are however a bunch of folks around the world who will jump on this bandwagon and begin the inevitable debate about whether or not the whole Christian belief system is a complete load of bollox. They’ve been waiting for this opportunity for years.

It’s bad enough that we have scenarios of East Vs West, of Christian Vs Muslim, of Black Vs White… now we are looking at fuelling debates which will create a Christian Vs Atheist paradigm that has the potential to overflow into the Creation Vs Evolution and Life After Death Vs Emptyness scenarios too.

This debate has longevity, it could for a long long time, no doubt spawning endless books and articles, possibly even films and careers for each viewpoint and sure the tourism in the area where this so-called tomb was found will go completely through the roof.

Nice one Mr. Cameron; what the world really needs now is a documentary which has the potential to inflame millions of people across the planet. Your timing couldn’t be much better ;)
