SKY Free Channels: ITV/UTV/BBC + Regionals

FOR THOSE SKY USERS OUT THERE who are pissed off (especially in Ireland) because the ITV/UTV channels are not available by default – here is some very useful information to help you tune in those channels on your box. Just following the instructions below and you will have all the ITV/UTV/BBC and all regional varients available in the ‘other channels’ section of your SKY system. My thanks to Shrek for sending this info on.
- Press the Services button on your remote control.
- Press the 4 button twice.
- Fill in the settings below and follow the on-screen instructions:-
The UTV/ITV channels are as follows:-
10758 V 22 5/6

I have been trying to get UTV and Channel 4 on my Sky box here in ROI with no luck any ideas??
UTV is no problem (see above) but the C4 remains elusive. The closest I’ve come is E4, but that’s just not the same.

Thanks 4 the info…brilliant…hard 2 find & sky apparently contractually cannot help even though they advertise UTV available in thier literature. I would say that is false advertising!

The above information seems very helpful,so I must be doing something wrong.I can follow the instructions and find the channels to the point where it seems to have stored them,then I just cannot find them.Have I to do something with the remore control or with the Digibox?

Tony, I don’t know what to say other than the instructions above worked fine for me (and others who commented too!). Once stored the channels should show up in the ‘other channels’ category… is this where you are looking for them?

One more question,does C4 come up in the same way? And in order to view channels ,what’s the most convenient way of switching from the normal list of stations to Other channels.

I don’t think C4 is available in the same way, but E4 should show on the main list of default channels. As for switching between the categories of channels I just use the main menu and select ‘Other Channels’. I’ve never found a decent way to integrate the ‘additional’ channels with favourites or standard selection methods. It’s crappy, but at least you can view the new channels with some manual intervention.
One other limitation to be aware of. Sky + doesn’t allow you to ‘schedule’ recordings on the additional channels. You can record on them, but only if you are watching the channel at the start of the programme in question and then hit ‘record’ – which is a pain in the ass compared to normal channels where you can schedule the recording for up to 1 week in advance.

The Channel 4 Film channel FilmFour has recently changed from being a pay channel to being free, along with its one hour offset FilmFour+1. I don’t know whether it was available on Sky before now, but I can get it on my Astra2 receiver.

I think you need a UK card,I think the Irish ones don’t get those channels
You could always check out the following Irish discussion board for additional info. They are quite helpful and very useful for Sky Digital related queries for Irish or UK areas.

Hey, Pete the plumber – spot on. I was using the BBC channel info above and getting “no signal”. It says 10733 – dunno if that has any effect anywhere but 10773 got the BBCs up on my system and yeah it took me ages to find the damned channels after; so thanks Coyote – “Other Channels” in the services menu for all you other luddites.

I can follow all the instructions, find the channels, store them… but when I got to ‘other channels’ it doesn’t list any channels and displays a message saying how to Add Channels. So, it seems they’re not storing for me. Any ideas?

I’m Dublin based and I setup these channels with no issues, so I’m not sure why it’s not storing for you. You could always try a complete reset of the sky system and then try again.
Also – I’ve noticied that Channel 4 is now provided free on the EPN so it might just be a matter of time before UTV comes on stream properly.

BBC3 as with BBC4 doesn’t start until 1900. Before that it’s one of the kids channels Cbeebies or CBBC. I noticed your message was posted at 5:23 pm so it might be that?

Great info guys & gals but any chance someone knows wot happend to BBC news 24? I did have it but over nite i lost it now just get the “There is a technical fault with this channel please try later” banner and had this problem for a couple of weeks.

don’t think you can get irish channels without sky. they are not free to air as such. think they aree going free to air later in the year.

You should get channel five by pressing services on remote, then system setup, then add channels and enter following codes.

Press find channels and then save the ones you want. Channel five will be in “other channels ” from the services menu from now on.
You Can recieve E4 and channel 4 with no sky package just turn sky of then remove card and place in back words and turn power back on.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get channel 5 sister channels ” Fiver” and Five USA on other channels, i live north west of Ireland.

Sky Digibox
To add channels to your “Other Channels” option on a Sky Digibox then simply do the following….
· With your digibox turned on, press the “Services” button (near the top of the remote).
· Select number 4 (“System Setup”), and then 4 again (“Add Channels”).
· In the appropriate fields enter the information required (you move through the fields using the up and down arrow keys).
· In the FREQUENCY field enter the 5 digit code, (it starts with either 10___ 11___ or 12___ in the table below). Don’t worry about the . in the frequencies in the table below, they are not required on Sky Digiboxes.
· The next three fields are toggle fields, i.e. use the left and right arrow buttons to change the values.
Toggle Polarisation – either H or V
Toggle Symbol Rate – either 22000 or 27500 (29500 cannot be received on a Sky Digibox)
Toggle FEC – either 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 5/6 or 7/8 (only 2/3, 3/4 or 5/6 are used on the channels below)
· Then move down to the last last option – “Find Channels”.
· Use the Yellow button to place a tick beside each channel you find and wish to store and when you’ve finished ticking press “SELECT”. These channels will now be stored in your “OTHER CHANNELS” menu. (Press “SERVICES” then select “OTHER CHANNELS” at the bottom).
Non-Sky Satellite Receivers
For the many Non-Sky FTA satellite receivers that are available out there, you will have to consult your user manual for how to scan for new channels as each box have different menu systems and options.

So, the following channels are now all available via satellite FTA (Free To Air), meaning no card is required, just tune it in and you can watch away. (The many UK regional variations are also available in the table below this one and many are found generally on the same frequencies as the Irish versions).

Channels in bold cannot currently be viewed FTA and require a subscription or FTV viewing card, but there is a strong chance that they will become FTA in the future, when suitable space is found on the Astra 2D transponder. Their frequencies will almost certainly change so if and when they do become available for FTA viewing, their details will be amended on the table for all to easily find and the bold status will be removed so you will know when the frequency provided is for a working FTA version of the channel.
The FTV channels are listed here anyway for reference and also for people who are using a CAM and FTV card to watch so they can tune them in also. Note that FIVE USA and FIVER cannot be viewed on an Irish Sky card and will only work on a UK subscription or FTV card.
# All Channel 4 related channels including timeshifts (+1′s) and spin-offs (E4, More 4, Film 4 etc) are the Northern Irish/UK versions of the channels and are completely unrestricted so there will be no programmes blocked such as movies or US imports.
* For most Free To Air HD Receivers ITV HD can be tuned in, but, it requires you to either tune in another channel altogether and edit its details to the correct ITV HD settings in order to view, (this is done either on the STB itself or via a PC depending on manufacturer), OR you can download a channel list for your STB, (again, depending on the manufacturer), and load the channel this way by connecting your STB to your PC via serial port or USB.
***As of March 2009, ITV HD can be tuned into a Sky+HD box BUT ONLY IF it is running the new HD version of the EPG which was released to Thompson STB’s from 10th March 2009. (Rollout to all Sky+HD boxes is due to be completed by Summer 2009). The channel only shows one or two HD programmes a day and it does not carry EPG listings so you will have to check listings for the channel yourself, it also cannot be recorded from on a Sky+HD STB.***
ITV HD is currently an interactive application broadcast on Eurobird 28.5, but may launch at some point in the future as a full channel that can be tuned in normally like the rest of the channels on the list. This will only happen is sufficient space is found on Astra 2D and if this does happen, the table will be updated with the new tuning information.

new pace box model ds 430n great box in everyway with fast channel change but will not store other channels after power down from mains or after using interactive services any ideas is this a common fault with box sky nor pace dont want to know viewing card is paired up with box and is connected to phone line ive never come across this problem before any ideas thanks paul

have saved the BBCs and ITVs under the other channels, but will not stay there. They are taken off the system in a couple of hours. Any ideas?
if you get sky+ in ireland now you get channel 5 and bb3 and 4 already programmed into other channels. as regards channel 5′s sister channels, my sister can get them and she live 6 miles away from me and i cant get them. thank you so much to every one for their tips and codes.
Help! I have an old sky box and I watching Free to air channels. The signal has just gone from the box.I know sky has sent out new cards to all subscribers so I do not know if I have to do anything to fix this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
you should keep getting the free channels even without a card but maybe not them all. check the input signal to see if dish has moved or bad connections or sommit.
If you put in 12407 H 2750000 2.3 you get ITV1Yorkshire East ,ITV1Meridian South East , ITV1Tyne Tees North Anglia West and Central South West.
Got Sky disconnected but we still have some channels coming in plus the extra channels. We dont have RTE1 RTE2 or TV3. Should these have been cut off or can they be viewed as extra channels.
You can’t get RTE or Tv3 without sky at the moment. I think free to air ,nearly like England’s freeview, is coming in late this year.

You can tune in Tv3 and 3e if you have an Irish sky subscription but don’t think you can if you dont. You can tune them in to “other channels “with following codes. Give it a try and see. All it will say is “programme not available” or sommit like that if you can’t get them.

And 3e codes are11.260 H 27.5 2/3

hey thanks a million I am from Co.Meath and never noticed that I had not ITV/UTV until today when Liverpool vs Manchester were due to play. I knew it was een viewed on UTV and promised my son that he could watch it. U can imagine when I discoveredi had not hot d channel anyway was onto sky for over 21 mins and the only thing could do was advise me to buy a satalite guide and add the channell …..then I came across ur advice. As I type my son is happy out watching match. So thanks a mil…..T
hi, i live in ireland near the north/south border. had sky 2003-2006 then moved house nearby. re-subscribed as a new customer to sky in 2009 and found that whereas i had all the five/fiver/five usa channels on the main listing and accessible with an epg number during my first stint with them they have all gone and are now only on ‘other channels’. any1 know what happened in those dark 3 years?!!

I bought a sky + HD box from a supplier who installs the sky boxes. I have added channels e.g.channel 5 in the other channels section and when I try to view it it asks for a view card. I dont have this. I am using the box for free view channels only. Based in Dublin. Any suggestions would be welcome..

You can’t currently get RTÉ 1 or 2 on satellite without an ROI or NI Sky subscription.

I done all you said but when I hit other channels it tells me to insert viewing card.
When I do that it tells me there is an error with my viewing card.
I have the hd plus box and only cancelled it this month.
Also it wont let me watch any of the channel 4 ones it says insert viewing card which doesnt change it.
Have they done something with the boxes recently?

I have had freeviewing on an old sky box for the past 8 years. Today I removed the card and when I put it back I have lost loads of channels, E4 Ch4 etc. If I power off the skybox and remove the card and then power it on and then put card back the channels return but as soon as I select “TV Guide” the channel list reverts back and all stations are gone again. Any Ideas on how to keep these stations.
