New Look - What do you think?

November 4, 2005 (9 Responses)

New Look SiteWell - some late nights and lots of trial and error has resulted in an almost completed theme at the test site. I’m still working on a number of areas, but I’d be very interested in any feedback you may have on how it’s progressing at this stage. The title/banner needs work, the navigation menu will follow, I’m currently working on incorporating a flickr gallery and of course final tweaks have yet to be made… but the general theme and design is there to be seen at this point.

So - what do you think of the new look and direction? Any suggestions or advice? Please feel free to comment as now is the time to make the changes before I do the final transfer and upgrade. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Just ran into the new them you are about to launch. It looks really nice. It’s clean and fresh. It reminded me a bit of the techcrunch site.

I don’t know if the navigation bar you are using right now will also be included in the theme. I hope it does (although I am not sure how it works with the index.php/… etc you are using now, I’d like to learn though:)

I surfed around a bit and noticed that when going to the categories the sidebars didn’t load yet. Whether intentional or not it would be nice to have the page template to do just that or maybe only show the left side bar. This gives more space to creating real pages that are less blog postings focused.

The header pic is taking a lot of space. Many themes have that nag. So a bit smaller wouldn’t be bad but these things are easy to adjust by the end user.

I like the Up button at the bottom. Very userfriendly. To make it even more user friendly a copy of the the navigation bar here could be nice.

Just some personal thoughts which may help or maybe not:)

Good luck with finalizing the theme.

Thank you for the feedback. I agree with you about the sidebars but I haven’t figured out how to do it yet. The nagivation bar will be populated as before, but I like the idea of using it down near the footer as well - I hadn’t thought of that:)

    Very helpful - thanks again.

    Hi!
    I like it, but :)

    - make all sidbar elements having a white background, like the center does.
    - get rid of the gray backgrounds at the titles of the sidebar elements
    - change then the h3 title color to black, or something more visible. also bigger for better overview.
    - also line up the sidebars with the center .. the sidebars are closer to the header

    thats it. good luck

wow - I’m honoured m3nt0r :) - thanks for the feedback. I’m really using this new design as a stopgap until you complete your work on the bloxpress and release a WP theme.

Feedback incorporated… i’ve got the sidebars working, alignment sorted, still working on colours/fonts but most of the big stuff is sorted at this point I hope. Please keep that feedback coming, it’s invaluable.

Looks almost release ready.. just some things I noticed:

    1. On the left bar the grey headers are not in line yet with their respective content like Concept text, flickr pics etc.

    2. In IE The color grid of the flickr pics seems out of place considering the colors of the design

    3. If I click one of the categories the space between the header and the Category Title is pretty huge compared to archive and pages so this may need fixing to make it more consistent.

Just some small observations. Maybe they are of use.

    Good luck,

    Gemme

Got something to say?
